Is fly fishing your passion? When you get to Damascus, be sure to stop in to see Bob Gwozdziewicz at the Apple Tree B&B. Recently I stopped in and even though he was busy with yard work he stopped and showed me around his fly shop. And what a shop it is.

He could not resist showing how to tie a fly as I looked around at the small detail tools lying on his workbench. He had an assortment of flies in small tin containers which were amazing to look at. So realistic.

From there he showed me his real artwork, hand crafted fishing rods. He showed me the carefully planed sticks of bamboo all slightly tapered and measured to fit a section of rod. After seeing the intricate process he showed me a finished fly rod. What a piece of art it is.

The Damascus area is noted as some of the best fly fishing in the country. Fisherman come from everywhere to fish in the peaceful waters of the Whitetop Laurel Creek and surrounding waters.
