Are there trails to hike? Is that a loaded questions. The town of Damascus is the crossroads for several trails for hiking the Appalachian Trail, Iron Mountain Trail and The Virginia Creeper Trail. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails in the area around Damascus and the Mount Rogers area.

The Appaclachian Trail as it runs through Grayson Highlands State Park is a fabulous getaway to see wild ponies, rhododendrons in bloom, or for blueberry picking.

Let's do not forget the many trails in Tennesse and North Carolina. There is great hiking from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain.

Please be prepared when you go hiking. Weather on the mountain changes without warning and a hot sunny day can quickly turn into a cold wet one. Check with the local backpacking outfitters for trail conditions, water sources, and information.
